Overview
The 2001 Kia Rio was launched in four-door sedan and five-door hatchback versions respectively. The 2001 Rio hatchback version was marketed under various labels across the world such as Rio Look in Chile, and Rio RX-V in Canada. The sedan version of the 2001 Rio wasn’t made available in the United Kingdom, and the hatchback was the only version available. So, it was known as simply ‘Rio’, while in US markets it was marketed as the Rio Cinco; a five-door station wagon.
The first-generation Rio was offered without any choice of engine in the US markets: the 1.5-litre DOHC I4 gasoline engine that could produce 96 hp.
Cheapest Car of US during 2001-2002
At one point of time, the Kia Rio was even regarded to be the cheapest car in the U.S. market, marketed around the $8595 mark. The RIO LS was marketed with a three-year pre-paid service plan as a part of the deal, while some US dealers sold the base trims of the Rio free of cost along with extreme high-end vehicles such as Kia Sedona minivan.
The variants in different markets across the world were made available with different features such as the leather seats and car alarm. Overall, it offered great value for money and turned out to be extremely affordable.
